Comprehensive Eye Exam
A refraction, the procedure that gives your prescription, is only one part of a comprehensive eye exam. We recommend an annual eye exam for all of our patients. During your eye exam, the doctor will check not only your vision, but your overall eye health through a series of tests and the use of specialized equipment. This allows Dr. Walters to screen for ocular disease which could affect your health and vision for years to come.
What to expect:
- Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early for your appointment
- Please bring:
- current medical and vision insurance cards
- current prescription eyeglasses and/or contact lenses
- a list of all medications, including vitamins and supplements, and drug allergies
- for new patients: please download and complete new patient forms prior to your appointment
- After check-in, you will be met by one of our three technicians who will lay the foundation for your appointment with Dr. Walters. They will review medical history and talk to you about your current eye health and vision.
- Your eyes will be dilated as part of your exam. Dilation effects typically last 2-3 hours and will affect your near vision and cause light sensitivity. Many patients are able to drive after their dilation, but if you know that you are sensitive to dilation or are unsure, you are welcome to bring someone with you to drive after your appointment.
- All of our annual exams are comprehensive eye exams, and you can plan for your appointment to last for an hour.
